Reaching for Gold


Inspire-Aspire are proud to present Reaching for Gold, our latest book, which brings together work by secondary school students (and a few primary pupils) from the Inspire-Aspire Olympic and Paralympic Values Programme, which ran in over 100 schools in 2011 and involved about 15,00 students. Edited by David Lorimer, Reaching for Gold contains contributions from Beth Tweddle, Ellie Simmonds, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Sir Roger Bannister.

Inspiring Young People across the World!


Last academic year Andiswa Zulu from Ikusasalethu High School in South Africa won our International Award. 


Isabel Gilchrist from Stonelaw High School visited South Africa in February 2012 to share the Inspire-Aspire project with some of the pupils from Ikusasalethu High School. See our previous blog post for more information: http://inspireaspirenews.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/we-are-happy-to-announce-that.html

She brought back a number of completed posters and entered some of these for the International Award. Our winner Andiswa Zulu dreams of being a world renowned scientist and has been inspired to go for it through participation in the Inspire-Aspire Programme.

Paralympic Legends support Inspire-Aspire Awards


Inspire-Aspire is hosting a number of CPD sessions across the U.K. for teachers who are interested in becoming involved with the project. Paralympic legends, Michael McKillop and David Roberts are working with us to promote the programme and will be attendance at some of these sessions to share their experience of the Paralympic Games and explain how the values behind the Olympic movement relate to everyday life. Michael and David presented our Awards in Belfast and Swansea in June and proved an inspiration, not only to our national finalists, but to all in attendance. Why not come along to one of the following sessions to hear them for yourself:

Inspire-Aspire take applications for 2012-13


What a wonderful summer of sport we have had, haven’t we? Watching the coverage of the Olympic and Paralympic Games over the last two months has really shown what a positive impact London 2012 has had on Great Britain as a whole and demonstrated that whilst the Games are over, they will leave a lasting legacy which will inspire and motivate our young people for a long time to come. The Inspire-Aspire Programme plays an important role in this and will be even more poignant this year as the success of London 2012 and Team GB are still fresh in the minds of so many across the UK.

Olympic School launched in Canada


Education departments across the world are working together to create a lasting Games legacy. The Canadian Olympic School Program presents the first instalment of the 2012-2013 classroom resources with “Celebration of Excellence”. A resource that will introduce students to the Olympic Values, the Olympic Movement, the London 2012 Canadian Olympic Team and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame. Supplemented with adaptable and modifiable activities students will learn how to develop a Press Release, be challenged to adopt healthy active lives and develop a better understanding of what it means to Give Your Everything. Inspire-Aspire Awards Ceremony at Stormont


Thirty five national finalists from schools across Northern Ireland came together at the Parliament Buildings at Stormont to receive Inspire-Aspire Awards presented by Sir Robert Salisbury and Paralympian, Michael McKillop.

Online studies on the Olympic and Paralympic Games

Routledge Online Studies on the Olympic and Paralympic Games (ROSO) is a unique learning resource, publishing scholarly and multidisciplinary research on the Olympic and Paralympic Games.Aimed at academics, researchers, lecturers, students, authors, educators, athletes, coaches, journalists, Olympic and Paralympic centres, policy-makers, professionals and anyone with an interest in the Games, the platform aims to stimulate the production of new knowledge, facilitate dialogue and connections across disciplines and contribute to the ‘learning legacy’ of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

ROSO contains over 1000 journal articles and book chapters, including handbooks and major reference works, dating back to the 1960s, on themes including: the media, education, gender, politics, governance, management, law, business, ethics, legacies, the environment, disability studies, athletic performance and history. ROSO's Managing Editor, Dr Vassil Girginov of Brunel University, UK, has assigned a theme to every journal article and book chapter, allowing the user to search their area of interest.

Inspire-Aspire Awards Ceremony at Hampden Stadium

Over one hundred national finalists from across Scotland came together at Hampden Stadium on Friday to receive Inspire-Aspire Awards presented by Liz McColgan and welcome the Olympic torch to Glasgow.

Before presenting the awards, former World Champion and Olympic Silver medallist McColgan told a packed audience that it was inspiration from her coach and her determined work ethic which gave her the edge over more talented runners. 

The Inspire-Aspire Awards programme has reached over 35,000 young people this year by using the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the character qualities of Olympians to inspire young people to set personal goals and to develop future aspirations.
